Organization is key to learning – especially at home. This page will help you get organized and stay that way.
Step 1: Set Up Your Learning Space
While it can be tempting to do your work in a comfy space like your bed, don’t do it! Your bed is a place for rest and relaxation – not learning. Instead, find a place at home where you can truly focus on school. Set it up as close as possible to what desk might look like in the classroom. Organize all your learning materials carefully so you can easily find them. Keep your materials organized throughout the day. Be sure to clean up at the end of the day.
Step 2: Use Tools to Stay Organized
There are lots of helpful tools you can use to stay organized. Here are a few:
- Checklist: Write down all the important things you need to do for school. Check them off as you complete them. When something new comes up, add it to your list. Create a new list for each day or week.
- Schedule: Create a follow a daily schedule. You can write your schedule on paper and post it on the wall in your learning space. You could also use your Google Calendar to create your schedule. If you have different schedules each day, be sure to have that written down or in your Google Calendar.
- Timer: Use a timer to keep track. You can use a watch or smartphone. You could also purchase a timer for your desk. Whichever timer you use, use it to remind yourself when you need to join a live class. You can also use the timer to stay focused on an assignment for 15-20 minutes.
